Herbalist

A herbalist is a practitioner who specialises in the use of plants and herbs for medicinal purposes. This also includes Chinese herbalists and Ayurvedic herbalists.

Western herbalists combine ancient remedies with orthodox medicine to treat a range of medical conditions. These include migraines, anxiety and depression, joint pains, circulation problems, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), allergies and fibromyalgia.

At Harley Street we only work with professionally qualified and accredited herbalists who are members of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists. They are experienced in their area of study but continue to update their knowledge and skills on a constant basis. They operate to the strictest codes of conduct.

What is herbalism?

Herbalism is the study of plants and plant extract and their medicinal use for a variety of physical and psychological conditions. Examples of plants and plant extracts used include:

  • Bee palm
  • Rosemary
  • Elderflower
  • Lavender
  • Chickweed
  • Nettles

This has also been expanded to include fungi, shells and minerals.

These herbs are administered in the form of a tisane, decoction, poultice or syrup. Others are added to oils, creams and lotions.
