Cardiologist

A cardiologist is a medical professional who specialises in diseases and disorders of the heart. They diagnose, treat and manage a range of heart disorders which include hypertension, myocardial infarction, angina and ischaemic heart disease.

Note: a cardiologist does not perform heart surgery. That is carried out by a cardiac surgeon.

Role of a cardiologist at Harley Street

Cardiologists are a group of highly qualified, experienced and dedicated professionals who are accredited with respected organisations such as the Royal College of Physicians.

They apply their skills and expertise to a wide range of heart conditions which are separated into various sub-specialities.

These include:

  • Heart valve disease
  • Congenital heart defects
  • Heart failure
  • Cardiovascular heart disease
  • Coronary artery disease

Some cardiologists treat children and teenagers only whereas others concentrate on adults. Plus there are cardiologists who focus on heart conditions in athletes and sportspeople.

The cardiologists will discuss your condition with you, asking you about your symptoms, family history and medical history. He/she will also ask you a series of questions about your lifestyle.

This will be followed by a series of diagnostic tests and a personalised treatment plan.
